YAG Laser Surgery

Details

YAG Laser (type Erbium) produces laser energy in a wavelength gently penetrating the skin, absorbed by water (a main tissue cell component), scattering the effects of heat from the laser light. These properties are unique and allow dermatologic doctors to remove thin layers of skin tissue with precision that is exquisite while lowering damage to surrounding skin. The YAG-type erbium is usually used for skin resurfacing in individuals who have moderate and superficial facial wrinkles, splotchy skin discoloration, or surface scars which are mild. YAG-ER or erbium laser help to reduce redness, lower complications and rapid healing, compared to some other lasers. YAG-the Q-switched neodymium (ND-yag) laser delivers 2 different wavelengths of light. One of them is invisible infrared light used to remove blue-black tattoos, traumatic tattoos and deep dermal-pigmented lesions. YAG-ND may also be tuned to produce a green light for curing of superficial pigmented lesions such as brown spots and orange-red tattoos. In both cases YAG q-switched neodymium laser emits rapid bursts of the laser beam to the treatment site. Laser technology is currently being utilized for long lasting and efficient body hair removal. Although scientists are uncertain enough how the treatment work, it appears that the laser energy lead to thermal injury to the hair follicle. In this case YAG neodymium (YAG-ND) laser is being studied by dermatologist with promising results. While the application of laser for facial and body removal is still in its infancy, the dermatologists are enthusiastic about this treatment and future.
