Infertility is a reproductive system’s condition that is impairing child’s conception. This condition affects about 6 million people within the U.S. Infertility diagnosis is usually confirmed to couples who have been trying to conceive unsuccessfully for at least one year.

Pregnancy and conception are complicated conditions which depend on many factors:

1. Sufficient quality of embryo (egg)

2. Healthy sperm produced by the man

3. The production of healthy eggs (embryos) by the woman

4. The fertilized embryo (egg) ability to be implanted to the women’ uterus

5. The ability of sperm to fertilize the embryo (egg) when they meet

6. Unblocked fallopian tubes that let man’s sperm to reach the woman’s embryo (egg).

Finally, to continue the pregnancy to the whole term, the woman’s egg (embryo) must be absolutely healthy and her hormonal environment must be adequate for pregnancy development. If just 1 of such factors fails, infertility may happen.   About 1/3rd of infertility problems are related to the women; 1/3rd of infertility cases are related to the men; and the rest infertility problems are made up of unknown reasons or fertility causes between the couples. Unknown cases occur for about 20% of all infertility cases.

Men infertility factors consist of oligospermia (few production of sperm cells) and azoospermia (no production of sperm cells). In some cases, sperm cells are dying or these cells are malformed before reaching the embryo (egg). Rarely, men’ infertility resulted from such genetic conditions as chromosomal abnormalities or cystic fibrosis. Commonly, the woman’s infertility cause is an ovulation disorder. Other infertility causes in females result from endometriosis or blocked fallopian tubes. That happens when a female is having inflammatory disorder. Birth defects (congenital anomaly) including fibroids of uterus and uterus structure causing repeated miscarriages. An important factor in women infertility is aging. The ovaries eggs (embryos) production ability decreases with age, particularly, after age thirty five.

The ASRM (American Society of Reproductive Medicine) recommending that female under age thirty five start testing after unsuccessful attempts to conceive for the period of one year. For females over 35 years old, the testing should start after six months after unsuccessful conceiving. Some individuals or couples find attempting to conceive is more comfortable if they know that everything is good to start with.    Couples can be asked by their health specialist to make tests to confirm if everything work correctly and healthy. It’s always good to buy over counter kit such as ”fertell” and use it at home for evaluating fertility key elements of both women and men.

If no infertility causes are found by doctor’s examination, specific tests can be ordered. For males, such tests include analysis of semen. For females, examination include: laparoscopy, ovulation and temperature of body; and uterus and fallopian tubes X-rays. About 80 to 90% cases of infertility are cured with use of conventional therapy that include reproductive organs’ surgical repair or medication treatment. Such reproductive technology, as fertilization, is also used. Some individuals find it beneficial to talk with other people with the same problems or by visiting pregnancy forums.

In couples with infertility in which man has a low sperm number or woman with absent or blocked fallopian tubes, IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is offering to couples the biological parenthood chance.  ”In Vitro Fertilization” (IVF), an embryos (eggs) are removed from ovary surgically and mixed outside of body with sperm in Petri dish (”in vitro” is Latin term for ”in glass”. Approximately, after 40 hours, an embryos (eggs) are tested to prove if they became fertilized by the sperm and divided into the cells. Such fertilized embryos (eggs) then inserted in the female’s uterus by passing the fallopian tubes. ”In Vitro Fertilization” ( IVF) got media attention after it was discovered in 1978, but it accounts only for less than 5% of all infertility cases in the U.S.

The average cost of ”in vitro fertilization” (IVF) in the U.S ranges between 12,000-13,000. This procedure consists of highly trained specialists with modern equipment and laboratories, and the treatment may require repeated cycles to reach successful goal. Because ”In Vitro fertilization” and other related reproductive technologies are expensive and they account for only 300 of 1% (0.03%) of United States health care costs.

In the United States, IVF (”in vitro fertilization”) was introduced in 1981; from 1984 to 1998 – ASRM and its affiliate SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology), had more than 90,000 birth conceived with IVF method. ”In vitro fertilization”, (IVF) recently counts for appr. 98 percent of art procedures, with ZIFT, GIFT; and combination of procedures accounts for the remainder. The average IVF life birth number in 1999 was about 29% (which is higher than previous years) per retrieval.

The coverage services degree rely on where people live and on the insurance plan they have. 14 states recently having law that requires insurers to cover or to offer part treatment coverage and specific types of infertility diagnosis coverage. These states include: West Virginia, Texas, Arkansas, Rhode Island, New York, California, Hawaii, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersew, Massachusetts, and Montana. However, the law waries significuntly from State to State of what is and what is not covered. You have to call your state’s insurance comissioner’s office for more information. Call your state representative to learn about pending insurance.

To be a parent and having children is the most important thing of being human. Individuals must not be rejected insurance coverage for specific treatments to make their fulfill life.
