Women, Infants and Children (WIC Program) is a nutrition program that provides healthy food, nutrition and health education and other benefits free of charge to families who qualify. WIC’s main achievement is to help keep kids under age 5, pregnant and breastfeeding women stay healthy. WIC Programs offer: checks to buy free, healthy food; personal nutrition consultation; referrals for dental and medical care, child care, health insurance, fuel and housing assistance; tips for eating well to improve health. Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) also offers breastfeeding support, immunization, screening and referral; and health and nutrition workshops on a different topics such as maintaining a healthy weight, meal planning, shopping on a budget, caring for a new baby, picky eaters. WIC program checks are easy to use. You should carry them along with you anytime you go shopping for food and be able to use the checks to get free, healthy products such as eggs, milk, cheese, cereal, fruit juice, peanut butter, dried peas/beans, carrots, and infant formula. WIC Programs are available for all family types: single and married parents, working/non-working. If you are mother, father, grandparent or foster parent or a legal guardian of a child under age 5, you may apply for this program for your child. If you are recently getting Welfare, Medicaid or foodstamps, you are automatically eligible for WIC. To apply for WIC you should call the WIC program office in your community and set appointment or call the free 800#. Many WIC offices are open on Saturdays and in the evenings, so you do not have to miss work. People who are eligible for this program have to have income yearly as follows: 1 person: $17,700 dollars; 2 family members: $23,736; 3 family members - $29,767; 4 family members- $35,798; 5 family members: $41,829; 6 family members - $47,860; 7 family members - $53,891.
