Nissen Fundoplication
Nissen Fundoplication is a procedure used to correct and treat GERD which is Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
GERD is a digestive disorder caused by gastric acid flowing into the esophagus from the stomach. Nissen Fundoplication is a type of surgery that improves natural barrier between the esophagus and the stomach by wrapping a part of the stomach around the lower esophagus.
With this procedure, flow of acids is prevented into the esophagus, stopping the acid from backing up as easily. Nissen Fundoplication is a surgery that is performed laparoscopically but was originally an open surgery procedure.
