Details

Pneumonia is the inflammation or infection of the lungs that affects an individual's lungs in two different ways. Bronchial Pneumonia affects patches located in the lungs while Lobar Pneumonia affects a lobe of the two lungs. Pneumonia is ranked as the 7th disease causing death in U.S. This disease is caused by a virus, bacteria and mycoplasmas. Pneumonia is also caused by inhalation of dust, fungi, gases, liquid and food. Those who are at risk for Pneumonia are the elderly and the young. Viral Pneumonia usually heals on its own and there is no treatment method available from it. However, antibiotics can cure bacterial pneumonia and speed up the recovery even though the disease is more resistant to these types of drugs making it more difficult. There are vaccines available from bacterial pneumonia protecting the person from 23 types of the infection however it may be less effective in those who are over the age of 65. Pneumonia usually is something that occurs as a complication of flu therefore a vaccination from influenza is recommended. For more information call: 1-800-LUNG-USA
