Occult (or hidden) bacteremia is the bacteria presense in blood, although no infections are apparent else in the child’s body and the children do not seem particularly ill. Occult bacteremia is accounting for up to 4% of the fevers in infants between the ages of one and twenty four months. In more than 75% of all cases, the infection is resulted by bacterium called streptococcous pneumonia. In some cases, children with occult bacteremia, have sore throats, or respiratory tract infections, but frequently the only symptom occurs, is fever commonly 10% for higher. Diagnosis of occult (hidden) bacteremia made by detecting bacteria in the sample of blood. Such tests as white blood cell numbers, may be performed to help determine bacterial infection risks. The condition is treated with antibiotics.
