Many men think that taking nutritional supplements may provide health benefits or help them increase athletic performance but they are wrong. It is best to get nutrients from a wide variety of foods rather than from a vitamin or mineral supplements because your body may not absorb the vitamins as effectively as those obtained from food. By eating 5 vegetables and fruits you are getting 60 milligrams of vitamin C. Men who smoke should take 100 milligrams of vitamin C. There is no proof that taking big doses of any vitamins may make you healthier. Sometimes, taking a huge dose of a certain vitamin may harm your health. For example, huge amount of vitamin C above 1,000 milligram per day may cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and sometimes kidney stones. Remember, for good health, you have to include in your diet a balanced, high fiber, low fat diet containing plenty of fruits, vegetables and grains. [Source: Jeffrey p.
