A neurological surgeon is the specialist, who provides operative and non-operative management (diagnosis, treatment, prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, and critical care) of disorders of peripheral, central, and autonomic nervous systems, that include their supporting structures as well as vascular supply; the diagnosis and treatment of pathological processes which modify function or the activity of the nervous system; and the surgery or non-surgery management of aches. A neurological surgeon treats individuals with disorders of the nervous system; meninges, disorders of the brain, spinal cord disorders, skull and its blood supply, including the vertebral arteries and the extracranial carotid; disorders of the pituitary gland as well as disorders of spinal and cranial nerves throughout their distribution. A neurological surgeon requires seven years of training.
