Morphine

Details

Morphine is a narcotic analgesic that relieves pain. Each dose of morphine should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor with a full glass of water. You should never take more of this medication than prescribed. Some less serious side effects that can result from the use of morphine may include: dry mouth, constipation, itching, sweating, nausea, loss in appetite, and vomiting. If you experience any more serious side effects such as seizures, allergic reactions, dizziness, or weak breathing, you should go to an emergency room as soon as possible to seek medical help. If you have been taking morphine for a period of 5-7 days you should never stop stopping your dosage suddenly as this may result in symptoms of withdrawal. Consult with your doctor for proper instructions on how to gradually decrease your morphine dosage. You should drink a good amount of water while taking this narcotic to reduce symptoms of constipation and increase your fiber intake. Always use extra caution if you are young than age of 18 or older than 60. Consult with your doctor first before taking morphine if you are currently breast feeding a baby. If you suspect symptoms of overdose such as weakness, seizures, slow breathing, and coma, stop taking morphine and seek medical help right away. Certain drugs such as antihistamines and common antidepressants may cause interactions with morphine, therefore it is very important to let your doctor know of the medications you’re currently taking before starting a morphine therapy. For full prescribing morphine information, consult with your doctor or a pharmacist. Store this drug at room temperature far away from children, and away from heat.
