Menopause is the beginning twelve months after a woman's last period. At that point, a woman is no longer fertile and is considered post-menopausal. It is basically a transition from fertility to infertility. The process begins when ovaries of a woman produces less estrogen progesterone and testesterone which is known as Perimenopause. This is a gradual change and may take up to 10 years and happens usually in the late 30's. Hot flashes is one of the most infamous symptoms of perimenopause. They last from 30 seconds to five minutes but hot flashes are not post-menopausal reality. When menopause approaches, hormone production starts to diminish. Diminishing estrogen leads to a drier and less elastic vagina which can make a woman more susceptible to urinary tract infections. Mood changes can also occur and are caused by changing hormone levels.
