Meclizine, Cyclizine(brand names: Bonine, Antivert, Marezine, Dramamine) is a drug indicated for treatment or preventing dizziness, vomiting, and nausea, resulted from middle ear infection or motion sickness. For motion sickness, meclizine, cyclizine should be taken thirty minutes before traveling. For other conditions, the medication should be taken exactly as prescribed by doctor. Meclizine in chewable form of tablets, should be chewed before swallowing. Meclizine, cyclizine side effects may include blurred vision, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, or stomach upset. Such side effects are usually subside as person’s body is adjusting to this drug. If they become bothersome or persistent, the person must contact his or her doctor. Because Meclizine, Cyclizine can result in drowsiness, caution involving in activities require alertness. If other side effects rather than described above, occur, the person must notify doctor. Before using meclizine, cyclizine, the person must tell his or her doctor about medical history, particularly of any allergies, glaucoma, asthma, urinary or prostate problems. Alcohol use must be limited and the person must be cautious while operating machinery or driving. Children under 12 years old, should not be given this drug without doctor’s advice. Pregnant women should inform their doctor before using this drug. It is not clear if meclizine, cyclizine is passing through the breast milk. Before breast-feeding, woman should consult her doctor, if she may use this medication. The person should tell his or her doctor about all nonprescription or prescription medications he or she uses, particularly of medications that are having a drowsiness effects including tranquilizers, for colds, cough and allergies, barbiturates, narcotic pain medications, anti-seizure drugs, or sleeping drugs. The person should not stop or start this and any other medicines without doctor’s approval. In overdose case, the person must contact emergency room or poison control center promptly. Residents of the U.S. may call 1-800-222-1222. Overdose,s symptoms can include seizures, unusual excitability, shallow or extremely slow breathing, hallucinations, and drowsiness. Person should not share meclizine, cyclizine with other people. If dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered and dose should not be double-up. Meclizine should be stored at room temperature far away from heat, moisture, sunlight, children, and pets.
