Lymphatic Filariasis is a type of infection with several thread-like parasitic worms and is a disease of the tropics. A common type of filariasis is infection with a parasitic worm living in the human lymph system. Parasite is spread by infected mosquitoes from one person to another. Long term exposure causes lymph system damage and other serious complications. There are 3 different worms that cause Filariasis: Brugia timori, Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi. Symptoms after exposure usually occur within 5-18 months after the mosquito bite.
