An internal medicine doctor is a personal type of physician that provides long-term comprehensive care in the hospital and office, manages common and complex diseases of adolescents, adults and elderly. Internists are trained in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer, diseases and infections affecting the heart, kidneys, joints, blood and digestive, vascular and respiratory systems. Doctor of internal medicine is also trained in the essential of primary care internal medicine incorporating the understanding of prevention of disease, substance abuse, wellness, mental health as well as effective treatment of common complications of the skin, ears, eyes, reproductive organs and nervous system. Internal medicine doctor requires three years in internal medicine plus additional training and examination for certification in interventional cardiology, clinical electrophysiology and cardiovascular disease.
