Hydrocodone (brand name Vicodin) is an antitussive, opioid type of drug available only by prescription. The pill works by reducing pain by hinding to pain-blocking receptors along the body. Hydrocodone is used for severe or moderate pain; also for relief of severe cough. You should not take this drug if you had allergic reactions to this medication in the past, brain injury, severe kidney or liver disease. Be cautious if you have alcoholism, head injury, kidney stones. Swallow the Hydrocodone tablet with 8 ounces of water or milk and take the dose exactly as prescribed. Usually Hydrocodone starts to work within 30-40 minutes. It may be taken with or without food and you could contact your doctor if any vomiting, nausea, severe constipation, difficulty breathing, irregular heart beat symptoms occur. Do not use alcohol while taking hydrocodone and avoid exposure to heat as it may lead to sudden drop in blood pressure.
