Goldenhar Syndrome is a variation of Hemifacial Microsomia. Characteristics of this disorder include bilateral or unilateral mandible underdevelopment narrowing of the eye opening, epibulbar dermotids, which cause vision problems, bilateral or unilateral size related reduction and flattening of the upper jaw (Maxilla). Because of the delayed growth and the development of the regions which are affected, the effects of this disease will become more evident as the baby grows and as time passes by. The lack of the development of the lower and upper jaws may result in breathing complications and as a dental malocclusion which has to be corrected orthodontically or surgically. Treatment for patients with Goldenhar syndrome usually requires the expertise of an orthodontist and a craniofacial surgeon.
