Glucotrol

Details

Glucotrol (Glipizide) is an antidiabetic medication used in treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. Glucotrol controls diabetes by stimulating the pancreas in order to secrete more needed insulin. This medication is an aid and not a substitute for exercise and appropriate diet. If you don’t follow the recommended diet and exercise regimen, it may lead to serious complications such as low or high blood sugar. Glucotrol is not an oral form of insulin, and it’s not a substitute for insulin. Common side effects such as diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, headache, nausea, hives, low blood sugar, skin rash, itching, stomach pain, and drowsiness may occur while using Glucotrol. In some rare cases, anemia and other blood disorders may result as well. This condition is usually caused by missed meals, other medicine or excessive exercising. If you experience any of these symptoms caused by low blood sugar like cold sweats, fast heartbeat, blurred vision and fatigue you should seek medical emergency attention. Avoid taking Glucotrol if you had allergic reactions to it in the past. This medication should be stopped if you have a diabetic ketoacidosis condition (a life threatening condition). If you have heart complications, discuss your concerns with a doctor first. While taking Glucotrol, you will need to check your blood and urine on a periodic basis for presence of abnormal glucose levels. Specific medications that affect Glucotrol include: Aspirin, Tagamet, Coumadin, Premarin, Diflucan, Lupid, Monistat, Motrin, Reifadin, Bactrim, Levoxyl, and others. Before combining any of these medications together you should talk to your doctor. This medicine should be discontinued in pregnant women one month before expected delivery. The usual dosage is 5 milligrams taken before breakfast. The dose may be increased depending on your needs. Glucotrol overdose may result in hypoglycemia, and if this condition happens you should seek for medical attention immediately.
