Gloassopharyngeal neuralgia

Details

Gloassopharyngeal neuralgia is a rare medical condition, where an individual has repeated attacks of severe aches in the throat back near the tonsil, in some cases damaging the ear on the same side. The disorder usually starts after the person reaches 40 years of age and happens more frequently in males than in females. The case of Gloassopharyngeal neuralgia is not known. Attacks of this disorder are brief and intermittent but result in excruciating pain and can be caused by certain actions including yawning, talking, swallowing, or chewing. The pain can last a few seconds to several minutes and mostly affects only 1 side. Such drugs like antidepressants, Baclofen, Phenytoin, and Carbamazepine are prescribed to treat glossopharyngeal neuralgia. If such treatment fails, surgery can be required to cut or block the glossopharyngeal nerve either at the brain’s or neck.
