Furosemide (brand name: Lasix) is a loop diuretic drug available by prescription. This drug works by promoting diltation of arteries, lowering blood pressure and helping lose excessive body salt. Furosemide is used for treatment of high blood pressure and edema. Use this medication only as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use this drug if you have allergic reaction to sulfonylureas, sulfa drugs, inability to urinate. Dose should be taken exactly as doctor prescribed. Swallow the Furosemide tablet with 8oz glass of water or milk. It takes about one hour to lose water; 2-3 weeks to make your blood pressure lower. Best effect is if you take this drug with food. Contact your doctor immediately if you have headache, dizziness, low blood pressure, and hearing loss. You should avoid alcohol, while using Furosemide. Keep the container with pills away from heat, moisture and light at room temperature.
