Fluconazole is an antifungal drug. It works by causing damage to fungal cells and this damage kills the fungus that causes the infection. This medication is used to treat vaginal and systemic fungal infections and you should not take this pill if past allergic reactions have occured while taking this drug. Patients with anemia, alcoholism, liver disease should use this medication with caution. Dose of Fluconazole must be adjusted in patients with liver problems. You should take the medicine as prescribed by your doctor. If you use the liquid form of Fluconazole, you should shake very well before using. The drug starts to work in one and a half to two hours, but you should complete your treatment ordered by your doctor. To minimize upset stomach, take Fluconazole with a meal. Avoid alcohol and contact your doctor if symptoms of nausea or vomiting come up. The brand name of this medication is Diflucan.
