According to Chiron Pharmaceuticals, the company would be able to provide only 4 million doses of its flu vaccine Begrivac for the next flu season. This is 8 million short than was expected. The reason of the flu vaccine shortage is due to to sterility problems at its German manufacturing plant. Begrivac is sold to customers outside the United States. Chiron also said U.S. regulators were inspecting plants in England, liverpool to see if it is up to code to produce its flu vaccine Fluvirin for the U.S market. The company said that if the United States regulators certify the plant, it plans to ship 18 to 26 millions doses before the flu season begins.
