Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is an extremely rare hereditary connective tissues disorder, that causes unusually fragile tissues, very elastic skin, and flexible joints. Such syndrome consists of few variations, which are resulted from different genes abnormalities, that are controlling connective tissue production. Many children are having a benign hypermobility(very flexible joints) without any other symptoms; such flexibility is tending to reduce over time. The skin may be stretched few inches, but is returning to its normal positions when it has been released. Joints can be very flexible. Frequently, wide scar forms over bony body's parts, especially the shins, knees, and elbows. Round, hard, small lumps can form under the person's skin and can be seen on x-ray. A minority of individuals who have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome tend to bleed easily. Repairing wound can be very difficult, because the stitches are tending to tear out of the fragile tissues. Organs in the person's body can also be fragile, resulting in problems at the time of the surgery. Dislocations and sprains are common. Appr. 25% of the children are developing a kyphoscoliosis and 90% are developing flatfeet. Diverticula and hernias of the person's intestine are common. In rare cases, a fragile intestine ruptures(perforates) or bleeds. A pregnant females with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome can have a premature delivery because their tissues of body are stretching easily. If the fetus is having such syndrome, the membrane containing the fetus can perforate early. Additionally, operation on the pregnant female including episiotomy or cesarean section to facilitate the delivery of baby, can be extremely difficult because of the fragile tissue. Excessive bleeding can occur after, during, or before delivery. Despite the varied and many complications, the people's life span is usually normal. However, in some individuals such complications as a ruptured blood vessels, are fatal. No cure is exist. Injuries must be prevented because of fragility of tissues. Padding and wearing protective clothing can be beneficial. If the person who has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome wishes to have child, genetic counceling is offered.
