Ectropion and Enetropion

Details

Ectropian is a condition, where the eyelids are turned outward and do not come in contact with the eyeballs. Entropion is a condition, where the eyelids are turned in against the eyeballs. Usually, the lower and upper eyelid closes tightly, protecting the eyes from injury and preventing evaporation of tear. If the one eyelid’s edge turns in (called entropion), the lash rubs against the eye, which may lead to cornea’s scarring and ulceration. If the one’s eyelid edge turns outward (called ectropion), the 2 eyelids may not meet adequately, and tears are not spreading over the eyeballs. Such conditions, are most likely to occur in elderly, and people with eyelid injury that resulted in formation of scars. Ectropion and Entropion may irritate the person’s eyes, resulting in redness and tearing. If necessary, both conditions may be treated surgically.
