Echoencephalography is a procedure, that creates an ultrasound image of the brain in children under two years old. Echoencephalography is painless, simple, and inexpensive. It may be performed at the bed to detect hydrocephalus (enlargement of the chamber inside the brain) or bleeding. For adults and older children, MRI (macgnetic resonance imaging) or CT (computed tomography) scanning replace echoencephalography.
