|
Digoxin (brand name: Lanoxin) is a digitalis-type drug available only by prescription. This drug works by increasing the force of contraction of the failing heart. Digoxin is used to treat the heart when it fails to correct arrhythmias. The dose varies on your health condition and age. Do not use this drug if you had allergy on any digitalis-type drugs, low serum potassium, very slow heartbeat. Doctors have to adjust the dose if you have kidney problems. You should swallow the capsule or tablet with an 8oz glass of water or milk. Take the dose exactly as prescribed. Usually the drug starts working within 2-6 hours and 1-2 weeks for the full effect. You must report to your doctor if you have vomiting, headache, fatigue, diarrhea, very slow and fast heartbeat and difficulty breathing. Avoid alcohol while taking Digoxin.
