Details

Cisapride (Propulsid) is a prescription medication used in treating nighttime heartburn caused by gastroesophagal reflux disease, a medical condition, where the valve between the stomach and esophagus and the stomach, leaks or opens helping stomach acid back up and cause burning (heartburn). Side effects such as: constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, headache, diarrhea, nausea, pain, and respiratory infections may occur while using Cisapride. In some cases individuals may experience fatigue, dehydration, itching, joint pain, depression, fever, anxiety, abnormal vision, back pain, frequent urination, chest pain, sore throat, and inflammation of the vagina. If you have some of these symptoms, you should contact your doctor who will make a decision whether this medication is safe for you. You should not use Cisapride at the same time as Sporanox, Nizoral, TAO and Monistat 4. You should also avoid taking Cisapride if you ever had allergic reaction to it before or are sensitive to it. Cisapride should only be taken for nighttime heartburn. If you experience irregular heartbeat, while using this medication, immediately contact your doctor. If Cisapride is taken with Tagamet, Nizoral, Zantac, Xanax, Coumadin, Alchol, Bentyl, Cogentin, or Sporanox, the effect of each medication can be decreased, increased or altered. You should check with your doctor before combining Cisapride with other drugs. If you are pregnant, or expect to become pregnant, notify your doctor as soon as you can. Cisapride appears in breast milk and may affect a nursing baby. The regular beginning dose of Cisapride is 10mg, 4 times daily, used 15-20 minutes before meals and at bedtime. Your doctor will adjust your dosage depending on your needs. Keep Cisapride away from heat, moisture, and light.
