Carisoprodol (Soma, Vanadom) is a type of muscle relaxant which works by blocking sensations of pain which are sent to an individual’s brain. Carisoprodol works for the purpose of treating injuries as well as other muscular conditions that are painful along with a form of physical therapy and rest. This medication should not be taken if you have intermittent porhyria. If you are currently experiencing liver or kidney disease you should notify your physician prior to taking Carisoprodol. This medication is not approved to be used in treating children under the age of 12 and it also isn’t known whether it passes through breast milk. You should always talk first to your doctor prior to taking Carisoprodol if you have any questions. Some side effects which can result may include: depression, dizziness, headache, hiccups, insomnia, and blurred vision. If you experience more serious side effects of Carisoprodol such as allergic rection, loss of vision, tremor, or paralysis you should seek medical help immediately and stop the use of Carisoprodol. While using this drug, you should be careful while operating machinery that requires concentration such as driving. You should also avoid drinking alcohol, since it may increase dizziness and drowsiness. Carisoprodol should be taken with a full glass of water, and the maximium dose you should administer during a period of one day should be no more then 4 tablets or 1,400mg. Never take a double dose of this medication and if you suspect symptoms of overdose (fainting, confusion, or low blood pressure), seek emergency help immediately.
