Blepharoplasty

Details

Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery used to remove excess skin, muscle and fat from the upper and lower eye lids in order to reshape the eye. In upper eyelid surgery, A doctor begins by marketing individual creases and lines of the lids so that scars can remain as invisible as possible across these natural folds. The incision is done, and muscle, excess fat, as well as loose skin are removed. The incisions are closed with the use of fine sutures, minimizing scar visibility. During lower eyelid surgery, a doctor/surgeon performs an incision which is inconspicuous along the smile creases and the lashline of the lower lid. Excess fat, skin and muscle skin are after trimmed before the incision is closed off with fine stitches. Puffy eyelids which occur as a result of excess fat can be corrected with a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. Excess fatty material is removed and an incision in this case is done inside the lower eyelid. When stitches are used to close this type of incision, to the eye they are invisible. They leave no visible scarring and in addition to that they are self dissolving. Blepharoplasty surgery lasts from 1 to 2 hours. After surgery is finished, the doctor applies tiny sterile bandages. Ointment to avoid dryness of the eye region can be used. A certain level of bruising and swelling is normal. Cold compress, head elevation when lying down will help speedup healing process. Medication for pain or discomfort may be prescribed. For about 10 days after Blepharoplasty surgery, the eyes may feel dry, itchy, or sticky. The doctor may prescribe eye drops to relieve these symptoms. Permanent sutures will be removed in 3 to 5 days after this procedure. Self-absorbing sutures will dissolve.
