Basal cell Carcinoma |

Basal cell Carcinoma is a medical condition, in which a cancer originates in the lowest layer of the epidermis. This disease usually progresses on the surfaces of the skin, that was exposed to the sun. The tumors start as shiny, very small, firmed, raised growth on the skin and became larger very slowly, in some cases so slowly that they are invisible, until new ones grow. Basal Cell Carcinoma can form scabs or ulcerate in the center. In some cases, they are able to grow flatter and look like scars. The cancer’s border may take on a pearly white appearance. The cancer may bleed and produce a scab and heal, leading an individual to suggest that this is a sore and no cancer. Such alternate bleed and healing is frequently a major sign of basal or squamous cell carcinomas. Rather than metastasize in distant regions of the person’s body, basal cell often invades and damages surrounding tissue. When this cancer invades near the eyelid, brain, mouth, or bone, the consequences of invasion may be very dangerous. In many individuals, basal cell carcinomas are simply growing slowly into the skin. Removing carcinomas in early stages may prevent extensive injuries to the underlying structures. The physician may usually diagnose this disease by just looking at it. A biopsy confirms basal cell carcinoma. In his or her office, the physician may remove all the cancer by burning and scraping it by using electrodesiccation and curettage (electric needle) or cut it out. Before such procedures, the patient is given an anesthetic to the affected area. In very rare cases, radiation treatment is needed. For repeated tumors and basal cell carcinoma (scar like), Mohs surgery (microscopic controlled surgery) can be necessary. Creams indicated for use to cure cancer, including Fluorouracil are not appropriate therapy, because in some cases they let the cancer to grow under the healed surfaces of the patient’s skin.
