Bactrim (Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim) is an antibiotic used in treating a variety types of bacterial infections, fighting bacteria in an individual’s body. Ear and urinary tract infections can be treated using Bactrim along with other infections such as pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and traveler’s diarrhea. This drug should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. You should notify your doctor first if you have a history of kidney or liver related diseases. It is unknown at the moment whether or not Bactrim causes harm to an unborn baby, therefore it is in the FDA pregnancy category C group. This drug does pass through breast milk and may harm a baby that is nursing. Consult with your doctor first to make sure you get the necessary advice you need before you begin nursing a baby.
