Aotogram |
Details
|
Aotogram is a procedure, performed by x-ray of the aorta with a contrast medium inserted into the artery. Before the aotogram is performed, the individual is sedated; the radiologist or surgeon administers a local anesthetic and makes a small skin puncture or a cut at a site chosen to give easy access to the part of the aorta that needs to be studied. A sterilic catheter is threaded up to the beginning of the portion of the aorta to be studied. Dye is injected and pictures, either still or moving are taken using an image-intensifying x-ray screen. After the aotogram is done, the catheter is taken out. The entry site is also satured if needed. In other cases, a bandage is applied and the individual is observed for any problems while the sedative wears off. The possibility of a fatal late reaction to the contrast medium makes it needed for the individual to be observed for a few hours after the aotogram procedure.
