Anaplastic thyroid cancer amounts for approx less than 10% of all thyroid cancers and most likely to occur in older females. Anaplastic cancer grows too fast and usually results in large growths in the neck. Approx 80% of the individuals who have anaplastic cancer do not survive more than one year. Anaplastic cancer does not take up radioactive iodine, so treatment with radioactive iodine is useless. However treatment with radiation therapy and anticancer drugs after and before surgery have resulted in some cures.
