Its GeneChip part consist of such components as reagent for extracting, labeling target nucleic acids, disposable probe arrays ,which contains genetic information on a chip, amplifying, a scanner to read the fluorescent image from the probe arrays, a software to manage the resulting genetic information and analyze. Affymetrix markets its products to biotechnology, diagnostic, agrichemical, pharmaceutical, consumer products companies as well as private foundation laboratories, and academic research centers; and clinical reference laboratories in Europe and North America. The company was discovered in 1991 and is located in Santa Clara, California.
