Details

Acutrim (also known as Phenylpropanolamine) is a nonprescription appetite suppressant medication used with a weight loss and exercise program. People on this drug should not take more than 1 tablet daily. Taking more then the recommended dose will not speed up weight loss and could cause serious health problems. You should use this medication exactly as recommended on the package labeling: 1 tablet at mid-morning with a full glass of water. Do not take Acutrim for longer than 3 months. This should be enough time to establish the new eating habits necessary to maintain weight loss. You should stop using Acutrim, if you have such side effects as dizziness, sleeplessness, nervousness, fast heartbeat or headaches. Acutrim should not be taken by individuals, who have depression, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, thyroid or eating disorders. Acutrim is for adult use only. If this medication is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is very important to check with your doctor before combining Acutrim with other medicine especially with such medications as: cold or allergy preparation formulas that contain phenylpropanolamine or any type of nasal decongestants; antidepressants classified as monoamine; oxidase inhibitors such as Parnate, Marplan, and Nardil. Women who are pregnant or nursing should seek advice of a doctor before starting this drug.
