Accutane (isotretinoin) capsules are used in treatment of advanced, severe acne that can not be cleaned up using antibiotics. Accutane can cause serious side effects. Before starting this medication you should discuss with your doctor on how serious your acne is, possible benefits and side effects. Most serious side effects of Accutane include: birth defects, suicide and mental problems. Do NOT take this drug if you are pregnant or become pregnant during treatment with Accutane. Treatment of Accutane involves a start-up of 30 day supply. You will take the medication twice daily with meals unless ordered otherwise. Additional common side effects of this drug are cracked lips, dry eyes. You should stop taking Accutane if you become feeling sad, losing interest in activities you once enjoyed, sleep too much, have troubles concentrating and have no energy.
